As part of my YWAM Discipleship Training School which started in Kona, Hawaii, I was sent out on an outreach team to Mongolia! This was an entirely different and unique missions experience compared to the Ghanaian mission of my past, and showed me God’s heart in all new ways!
It was an absolutely awesome experience being able to partner with the YWAM base in Ulaanbaatar! During our time in Mongolia, we had the opportunity to partner with this YWAM base in many different activities such as Bible distribution, transitioning to a new building, and we even got to participate in Mongolian worship nights! Christianity has only been in Mongolia for about 100 years, so it’s incredible seeing the first generation of Mongolian Christians rising up in the nation! Pictured here you can also see my amazing translator Erdenebileg Tuwshinbat (he just goes by Ebi though haha) and he helped us to communicate with the Mongolian people and truly became like a brother to me!! Love the guy!
One of my all time favorite moments during my time in Mongolia happened when I got to experience the incredible hospitality of the local people through this random local man who became my taxi driver! See, in Ulaanbaatar, any local person can be a taxi if you just wave your hand on the side of the road, and so one day I needed to do my laundry and was looking for a driver, and I ended up with this guy!! He helped me get to a place to drop off my laundry, but then he proceeded to invite me into his home and it was absolutely incredible!! His mom and sister were there and provided me a full meal, and he had 2 twin daughters as well as a son and the son performed karate for me while the sisters did a bunch of TikTok dances!! This family was so friendly!! And then on our ride home, the driver even picked up a drunk guy from the side of the road and helped him get home safe in the cold! My driver was so kind and at the end of our adventure, I told him through Google Translate that he reminded me of my own amazing dad in America who often helps people out and shares the gospel driving uber, and then my driver was crying when I told him this because his father had recently passed away! It was a crazy moment of connection and gave me a taste for the beautiful kindness that can be found in so many Mongolian people!
My Mongolian outreach team was definitely one of the most culturally diverse out of any of the missions teams I’ve been a part of in my life, as we had people from the Midwest, the South, the North, Canada, and even Brazil on our team! Everyone brought something unique to the table, and in this photo you can see all of us in our traditional Mongolian outfits, the dells!! Mine is especially nice, I loved the purple and orange combo, as you can probably tell from this website’s color scheme haha.
My favorite season we spent in Mongolia was when we were in the province of Bayankhongor headed up by this amazing couple named Zaya and Ocean!! Zaya specifically was so excited to have us there, because they didn’t have any men on their local Mongolian worship team, so my teammate Jacob & I were able to fill that void! I just remember how powerful it was leading multilingual worship, with us singing in English and them singing in Mongolian to worship classics such as “What a Beautiful Name” and “Waymaker”!
Out of everything that God did in my heart during my time in Mongolia, one of the biggest things was how He reignited my heart for youth ministry. Pictured here you can see that I was able to teach these 2 young girls ukulele lessons, and it was an absolute joy to me when I got to see the smiles on their faces as I was teaching them the meaning of the words in “Reckless Love”! On top of just teaching them ukulele, I also got to teach an awesome kid named Bilgunn some piano, and I also just had really open conversations with these kids about their family situations and the chance to pray with them! With Christianity being so new in Mongolia, it’s these kids who will carry the torch of hope to the next generation!! So excited to see what God will do with their lives!
Shortly after I finished my time in Kansas with APEX, I began my time at YWAM with a whole new archive of newsletters! These ones begin with covering my time in Hawaii at the Discipleship Training School, and then they end up in Mongolia and eventually back in Wisconsin at the end, with God moving in every step along the way!! This was also my last missions experience before officially launching this website and the Lord Remembers Ministry, so you’ll see a lot of the seeds God was planting in me in these newsletters to make this Ministry a reality!!
